Wrote THE END on our 1st draft and it feels so good!

Just tweaking a few things before sending it over to our script consultant Kathryn Burnett.

Giant phew on not having to bungy jump off the harbour bridge. Not sure what the 2nd draft motivating challenge will be yet - any suggestions?

We both had to take a week off film writing to work on other things, but got back into it today.

Love coming up with dialogue between the characters and have found that it definitely flows more easily when the characters have strong points of view.

Week 14 of the 21 week deadline. Still not even half way through the 1st draft yet and a bit freaked out about that, but planning to gun through more tomorrow and the next day.

Week 11 of our 21 week deadline. Will we make it? Not sure yet. Now that we’re working in Final Draft it’s taking HEAPS longer with all the formatting crap slowing us down.
Today’s writing inspiration pic is to remind us about the war against cliche. As we write T.U.D.O.G, we sometimes come up with cliched shit, which as everyone knows, is depressing as hell to write or read. So we’re trying to reverse this and make the scenarios more unexpected. Fingers crossed it works. Bonza.

We’ve been having issues working out a great ending. (Those gifs aren’t exaggerating.)

I went over the notes from our script consultant and Jaq went on a script writing workshop over the weekend. Both must have helped, because when we met up yesterday, we worked it out.

JOY.

So we now have a rough 1st pass and a solid beat sheet. Next up is to write it up proper-like in Final Draft.

Above is today’s writing inspiration. (R.I.P Nora and Respect Kristen)
Week 4 of our 21 week deadline. We’re seeing the pros of writing a fast rough draft first - it’s easier to see the whole picture as opposed to focussing in on the details too soon.
Writing the critic character has been the most fun so far. She sees the flaws in every single part of life which makes for some fun scenes.

Week 3 of our 21 week deadline. We’ve blatted through Act 1 of the very rough pass, so we’re feeling pretty good about avoiding that icy leap into  nothingness, but you never know, things could take a dramatic turn for the worse…
Above is today’s writing inspiration for our lead loner character. Benjamin Braddock had this brilliant nervousness that we often channel.

The entire 1st act of our screenplay is in that little box up there. We started by plodding away in Final Draft, but then opened a script note and suddenly slammed through the scenes, unencumbered by formatting dramas.
Pretty soon we realised that we’d written the whole 1st act in a script note. About 25 pages worth in a place that’s ‘sposed to be for little reminders.
It’s unorthodox, but it works. For now. :)

We were funded on the basis of our 5 page treatment and although the Film Commission don’t have a strict deadline for the 1st draft, we’ve given ourselves one as motivation.
So we have a 21 week deadline to write a 1st draft (aiming for around 100 pgs). If we don’t make it in time, we have vowed to bungy jump off the Harbour Bridge (biggest fear) in our underwear. (Is that even allowed? Let’s not find out)
We’re at week 2 and have decided to write a very rough pass of the whole film first so we have a road map. Above is today’s writing inspiration. Zach Galifianakis and our character Gavin have a similar vibe.
